A New Name – Weekly Briefing
Today we inaugurate the Weekly Briefing, replacing Just a Thought. Why are we doing this?
The “Presenting” Problem
Men have become a neglected people group and, as a result, the American family has been decimated. There are 72,000,000 children under 18 in America. Tonight, 33% of these children will go to bed in a home without a biological father. We can just blow by that statistic, but it seems wise to ask, “Is there not something systemically wrong with a nation in which one-third of its children don’t live with their biological fathers?”
The “Systemic” Problem
Researchers have conducted many psychological and sociological studies to explain why we have so many problems like unwed mothers, divorce, crime, suicide, drug addiction, pornography, abortion, and truancy. Many of these studies are helpful. However, at the root of all these problems lies the simple fact that we have not done a good job of discipling men to be Godly men, husbands, and fathers.
About 42,000,000 of America’s 108,000,000 men 15 years of age and older profess to be Christians. 42,000,000 professing Christian men should have changed the world. Why not? Regrettably, only 6,000,000 men—one in seven “professors”—are involved in ongoing discipleship or spiritual formation. The rest were “recruited” but never “trained.”
Some statistics don’t lie. These statistics give clear evidence that there is a battle for men’s souls raging all around us, it is systemic, and we have taken heavy casualties.
For Such a Time as This
What can we do about it? The founder of our organization has never wavered about his vision. He has never waffled about the mission. He has never minced words about our marching orders. He says, “I am calling a people unto Myself. Go and make disciples. You will be my witnesses.”
We want to equip, encourage, and challenge you as a leader in this Battle for Men’s Souls. That’s what the Weekly Briefing is all about.
I often dream about how Luther’s Reformation resulted in 50% of Europe’s churches becoming Protestant in just 40 years. Now that’s systemic change! What would happen to America if 50% of our churches “reformed” themselves to disciple men? I pray we will live to see the answer.
Together, this is a battle we can win. We cannot, we must not and, by God’s grace, we will not fail.
For the glory of Christ and no other reason,
