What Percentage of Men Are Having Problems?
I’ve heard at least two preachers say something like, “On any Sunday, half the people in the pews are hurting.” Recently I did my own poll among the 150 or so men who attend the “live” version of The Man in the Mirror Bible Study.
First I asked, “How many of you are having work-related problems? If so, raise your hand.” About 50% of the men raised their hands.
Then I said, “Raise your hand if you or someone in your family is having a health problem?” Roughly 30 to 40% did so.
Next I said, “If you are having money problems, please raise your hand.” This time something like 60% raised their hands.
Next I said, “If you are having some kind of a relationship problem, raise your hand.” Again, about 50% raised them up.
Then I said, “If you don’t have any problems raise your hand.” Four men hoisted their arms.
Finally I asked, “For those who just raised your hands that you don’t have any problems right now, how many of you lied?”
One of the four raised his hand, and we all had a good laugh!
While hardly scientific, it does seem that almost every man is facing some kind of work, health, relationship, or money problem. Our generation is so broken.
What are the implications for your ministry?
What are the implications for how you talk to men?
