Worldview, Christian: 70 Things Every Man Needs to Know
69. Worldview, Christian
Excerpted from Pastoring Men, Moody Publishers.
While the Bible is a reliable guide for all matters of both faith and life, the most important spiritual themes are repeated over and over again in many different ways for emphasis. That’s because most of the really big ideas about Christianity take ten or twenty years to sink in. Major themes include, for example, the Trinity, creation, the fall and sin, death and suffering, grace, repentance, faith, redemption, forgiveness, eternal life, the fruit of the Spirit, spiritual gifts, good works, relationships, the Great Commandment, and the Great Commission.
Christianity is the only system that is all true all the time. Fortunately, the Bible doesn’t describe a utopian world free of pain. That would make Christianity a wishful farce. Instead, the Bible describes the world exactly as we see it: a fallen world, a world groaning in pain that needs a Redeemer, Sanctifier, and Sustainer.
More importantly, the Bible describes how a man can rise above futility, sin, and despair to find peace, hope, and victory by surrendering His life to the lordship of Jesus Christ. The irony of surrender is that it leads not to defeat but victory.
A man’s ability to embrace and enjoy his place in the world depends largely on his ability to “think Christianly” about things. While this “Seventy Things Every Man Needs to Know” series certainly doesn’t cover every possible Christian worldview topic, it’s getting close. Why not equip your men with each of the 70 topics in this series? You can find them here in reverse alphabetized order, or at the end of Pastoring Men.
