483 – No Man Left Behind: A Model, A Method and A Mindset
No Man Left Behind is being used by more and more churches that want to make men’s discipleship a priority, and want a process to follow. We’ll look at three different perspectives on No Man Left Behind over the next three Briefings: as a model, a method and a mindset.
- A Model — A pattern to follow that results in building something that looks like the picture.
- A Method — How do you make it happen? The Create-Capture-Sustain process gives you a method for helping men find and follow Christ.
- A Mindset — The all-inclusive mindset means we break out of conventional “men’s ministry” thinking, and instead begin to think about how we can reach EVERY man that interacts with our church in any way.
Part One – A Model
When I was a boy, I loved building models. The picture on the box top and the instructions inside showed me what I was building and how to build it. I knew that if I (mostly) followed the directions, I would end up with the P-51 or a B-52 (airplanes were my favorite).
No Man Left Behind is a model as well. The “picture” on the front of the box is a disciple: a man who is called to live with Christ, equipped to live like Christ and sent to live for Christ; a man who loves God with all his heart, mind, soul and strength, and his neighbor as himself; a man living a powerful, transformed life who understands his identity in Christ.
The model gives you a pattern to follow — a set of directions that if you (mostly) follow, you will have more men in church and more men involved in discipleship. A model shows you what a church that disciples its men looks like.
The results are proven. Based on research with a few hundred churches that sent leaders to the No Man Left Behind training, we learned for the churches that intentionally implemented the Model afterwards, in just 2 ½ years they had 48% more men in church, and an incredible 84% more men involved in discipleship activities in the church.
