529 – Christianity Starts With Christ, Not a Set of Values
Before we married, I convinced my wife, Patsy, that I was a Christian. Shortly after our wedding, we realized we had an ambiguity of terms. I thought Christianity meant being committed to a set of Christian (moral) values. It was a task–something I did for God.
But for her, Christianity was bound up in surrender to a Person–to Jesus Christ. It was a relationship–a response to something God did for her. Patsy was the kind of person I wanted to be, and it came out of the overflow of her relationship with Christ. I tried my best to be like her in my own strength but I couldn’t pull it off. I knew she had what I was missing and surrendered my life to Jesus.
Are you committed to a set of Christian values, or have you surrendered to Christ? Make sure your men understand this crucial difference.
