533 – Four Foundational Spiritual Disciplines of Biblical Christians
All the direction we need to be biblical Christians is simply and profoundly summarized in four universal purposes for every believer: love God, love one another like Jesus, become and make disciples, and take care of creation (otherwise known as, respectively, the Great Commandment, the New Commandment, the Great Commission, and the Cultural Mandate).
But how? Do these four foundational spiritual disciplines, then sit back and watch as Jesus transforms your life:
Attend a weekly worship service; the goal is to give God the glory He is due. You’ll feel better when you do it for Him.
Study the Bible for yourself; no one will ever change significantly without the regular study of God’s word.
Actively participate in a discipleship small group; join a group with a leader who has a vision to take you under their wing and equip you as a godly man, husband, father, worker, and citizen. Make sure the group is small enough that you genuinely get to know the others in the group.
Get trained to make disciples and otherwise serve God; for example, how to lead a weekly small group, or how to serve in a homeless shelter.
Leaders, encourage your men to practice these four disciplines. That will get them in touch with the Holy Spirit who will take care of the rest!
