My Greatest Comfort

My greatest comfort is the sovereignty of God. If I'm reading my Bible right, God is sovereignly orchestrating all the seemingly random circumstances of our lives.
Finally, I said, "Look, if it is God's sovereign will for us to have this lot, then there is nothing either one of us can do to stop it. On the other hand, if it is not God's will for us to have this lot, then no amount of me begging you now is going to make it happen. So you go ahead and do what you have to do."
After thirty seconds of silence he said, "Well, since you put it like that, I guess you've got the lot."
I find great comfort in believing that God is sovereignly orchestrating all the seemingly random circumstances of our lives for good. Any other thought is unbearable. As Paul wrote, "If only for this life we life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men" (1 Corinthians 15:17).
