Why Is There Such Little Power In The Church?

Jack Miller, World Harvest Mission, would to go into local churches, look around, then ask, “Why is there such little power here?”
Of course, he wasn’t talking about mere brute strength, but authentic spiritual power (dunamis).
There are some powerful men in churches. A lot of men, however, lack spiritual power and, as a result, flounder. Why is that?
One day several religious leaders asked Jesus a question. They spoke about a man who was married, then died. His widow married the man’s brother, then he died too. Next, she married a third brother who also died. And so on, until she had married seven brothers. Then the leaders asked, “Whose husband will she be in heaven?”
Jesus replied, “Your problem is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.” (Matthew 22:29)
Power comes from knowing God, and knowing about God. We know God through the Scriptures. We know about God through the Scriptures.
If we want our men to experience authentic spiritual power, then we must help them know the Scriptures. That is the precise point of power. It’s hard to apply a truth you do not know.
