I ran across this entry from a journal I keep. The concept is to each day come humbly to Christ and linger there until we sense “the presence” of God.

8/14/96 The Moment of Humility, Devotional Life
Every seeker of true worship should thirst each day for a moment of humility with God. This moment comes from considering two things: my own mortality and the awesome nature of God, and more so the latter. I contemplate God through prayer or Bible reading or meditation upon the wonders of creation. I yield not to any ordinary day. I stay with God until by contemplating Him I am struck with a moment of awe, of being overwhelmed, of sensing a deep gratitude, of desire to praise and worship. This moment is an instant of clarity. The heavens open for an instant and I see God in a larger way. Then the veil closes back, but I have increased. It is a moment of insight. It is a gaze at the beauty of his holiness; a glimpse of the perfection of his beauty. And then it is gone. But the fading memory of it clings to me until tomorrow when, again, I come to Him seeking once more to be humbled in a moment by His greatness, His goodness, and His love.

A moment of humility: The mystery of creation: globe turning 1000 mph. As a man stares into to starlit night, as the globe turns, a man can scan the entire horizon of infinity. Though traveling 1000 mph, if I jump up I land in same place, and a plane doesn’t travel 500 mph plus the 1000, or actually go backwards 500 mph. If you hovered why doesn’t the ground beneath you disappear at 1000 mph?

A moment of humility: For a moment the veil was drawn back and I could see what it would take to reach the city. Then the veil slipped back and I could not fully remember what I had seen. Like a dream retreats back into your subconscious faster than you can run after to retrieve it.

A moment of humility: If this planet is 1/2” away and that star is 1” away, then I can see 6” into the smoky haze of infinity.
