The Core Issue That Keeps Holding You Back

Questions for you and the men you lead: Do you repeatedly shoot yourself in the foot? Do you keep messing up relationships at work? Is there strain on your marriage? Have you alienated your children?

If you answered, “Yes,” to any of these questions, you probably have a core issue that is holding you back. Do you know what it is?

My core issue has always been not thinking people really care about me. This stems from my childhood—long story, but God has given me great victory. However, the victory has been a long term process. Each year a big chunk of the issue gets cut away, but some remains. Then next year, another half goes, but half remains. So my core issue is still there, but barely.

What is your core issue? Figure out your core issue, and help your men do the same.

Then teach them to submit it to the “authority” (exousia = authority, power, jurisdiction) of Jesus, who said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matthew 28:18). He has jurisdiction over your life—the power to transform you.

Our part? We must each day come humbly to the foot of the Cross and there surrender ourselves to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. That’s the deal.

Yours for changed lives,

Patrick Morley, Ph.D.
