The Great Sin: “We Can Fix This”

Do you find it disturbing that we don’t hear more dialogue about the spiritual nature of our economic woes?
Does anyone really think the ultimate solution to the excesses of consumption and greed is government intervention? “We can fix this” is not the biblical path to healing.
Rather, 2 Chronicles 7:14 says that when calamity strikes, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Here’s what we need to be talking about:
- Humbling ourselves
- Praying
- Seeking His face
- Turning from our wicked ways
Once we do, then God will:
- Hear from heaven
- Forgive our sin and
- Heal our land
Notice that this is a verse addressed to God’s people. Forget about the Philistines. We don’t need the barbarians who plundered us to join in. If we who call on his name will do this, that will be enough.
By all means, let’s use all the human ingenuity we can to fix the problems we face, but always in response to God leading us after humble repentant prayer.
Yours for changed lives,
Patrick Morley, Ph.D. |
