From Presumption to Faith
A Special Message from David Delk, President of Man in the Mirror
For the last two weeks we have looked at Exodus 33. In this passage, Moses says “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”
Even though he had been successful so far, Moses did not presume that his abilities were sufficient for the future. Even though God had faithfully provided for the people, Moses did not presume God would do in the future what He had done in the past.
Instead, Moses begged God to go with them. He knew that it would be stupid to leave the mountain unless God went before them.
What will distinguish your ministry with men? There are lots of nice guys in America. There are vast numbers of competent leaders influencing men for both good and bad. There are many talented speakers, gifted administrators, excellent athletes, and successful businessmen. What will make your life any different?
Moses knew that the only thing that makes a truly eternal impact is the presence of God. Nothing else will distinguish your work as a leader except the power of God being released in and through your life.
Moses rejected self-reliance and complacency and instead exhibited a desperate faith. The bottom line? Cultivate a leadership lifestyle based on a radical faith in the power of God.
Yours by faith in the battle for men’s souls,
