Your Leadership Style
We have all been to a basketball game with two coaches who are polar opposites. One coach screams and yells at his boys. The other coach, a Tom Landry figure, barely shows any emotion at all.
You say to a player on the screamers team, “It must really get you down with your coach always screaming at you like that.”
The player gives you a surprised look and says, “No, not at all. My coach really wants to help us win. He’s completely for us.”
You say to a player on the Landry-esque team, “It must be hard being on a team with such an uninspiring coach.”
The player gives you a shocked look and says, “What are you talking about? Our coach is the backbone of our team. He’s really for us.”
OBSERVED: People know if you are for them or not.
If you love Christ, love his people, and want to do his work; it will get through. It really doesn’t matter what kind of personality, temperament, training, or style you use with people.
You do need to know what you’re doing, but you don’t need to deliver it in some “special” way. You are unique, and you have complete freedom to be who you are. The bottom line is that people always know if we are for them or not.

Reflection Questions for You and Your Leadership Team:
Do you agree or disagree that people know if you are for them or not? What is your leadership style, and how is it working for you? If stern, do you love your men, or are you angry at them-what comes through? If laid back, are you really for your men, or do they sense you are not that interested-what comes through? Any changes to make?
