Leadership: For you? Or for them?
A Special Message from David Delk,
President of Man in the Mirror
Have you ever thought about who you are actually leading for?
I know that as a leader, it’s easy for me to subconsciously implement ministry or activities in the way I want to have them. I think about the kinds of music I like, the activities I’m attracted to, the speaker I would like to hear, or the time frame that works for me. Of course, this is natural, but it also makes us less effective.
What’s the alternative? Instead of designing ministry efforts to meet your likes and needs, ask God to help you selflessly work to reach and disciple the men He is calling you to reach. So what if it’s not your type of music? Or if the activity is not something you enjoy? Or if you heard the speaker last year? Or if the food choices don’t fit your tastes? Those things aren’t really that important.
What matters is that God uses your efforts by His Spirit to transform the hearts and minds of men. That’s all the enjoyment a leader really needs.
Yours for the cause of Christ,
David Delk, President
