474 – Humble, But Not Humbled
Discussing a scripture passage in a recent staff meeting, I became convicted of the one-sidedness of my relationship with Christ. As I confessed my sin, this was my prayer:
O Lord, I came to a difficult realization today…
I want to be humble, but not humbled.
I want to be saved, but not purified.
Save me from my easy faith, which is not faith at all.
Give me strength and desire to truly follow you no matter the cost.
Change my heart, because without your power my heart serves only itself.
Leaders, when we cling to this easy faith, we are participating in a shadow of what the Christian life should be. Be humbled, purified, and repentant–for your own sake, but also for those you lead.
