Why I’m a Feminist
I’ve been married for over 40 years to the woman I love more now than the day we married. I have a fantastic daughter I deeply admire and love. My daughter in law was born to be a wife and mother. We’ve been blessed with three remarkable granddaughters who light our world.
When I was voted king of my sixth-grade class, my mother cut up a bedsheet, dyed it red, and sewed yellow fringe along the border to make me a cape. The greatest summer of my youth was spent with my grandmother at her lake cabin.
Half of our headquarters staff are women–godly women who share a passion to help men become all that God created them to be.
In fact, I’ve said from day one that our ministry to men exists because of all the prayers of those wives, mothers, and grandmothers who for decades have faithfully prayed that God would send someone to help the men in their lives.
I hope and pray for God’s richest blessings on each of these women. And I think that makes me a feminist. What is a feminist other than someone who wants the best for women? Of course, some have radicalized this idea–like so many other ideas. But the clear message in Scripture is that Jesus wants the best for women.
No one in history has done more for women than Jesus. It’s worth noting that the way Jesus most helped women was by discipling their men. His strategy to change the world of women was to change the world of men. He taught men how to love, nurture, respect, and treat women.
So what’s the best thing we can do for women? Easily the best thing we can do for women is to disciple men. If you really want the best for women, disciple their men.
Until every church disciples every man…

"Feminist", poor choice of words for someone who leads one of the largest men’s bible studies in the world. The demonic spirit of feminism has done more to destroy marriages than any other factor since the Equal Rights Amendment was passed in 1972.
Tommy, Thank you for your thought.
"Demonic spirit of feminism"? The thing that has destroyed marriages is a failure for men and women alike to fight for what they love. Sure there is corruption there, but feminism at its heart is the equal treatment of women in all facets of life. God is neither man nor woman, but is, in fact, both natures of Father and Mother living in perfect harmony. Stop demonizing feminism and start worshiping the God of love that loves everyone the same. It’s time we all showed just as much grace for each other as God has shown you and me.
A better title would be, why I support the rights of women within the context of God’s will.
