QUESTION: Pat, as a Christian leader, should I go see The Da Vinci Code or not? And what should I tell my men?
ANSWER: I have a good friend who is not going to see The Da Vinci Code because he thinks that, for him, it would be sinful. At first he thought no one else should go see it either. But as he thought it through, he began to wonder if he had the right to dictate what others might do (not that anyone would listen anyway.as you know, people pretty much do what they want). That's good thinking.
I have, for myself, 5 simple rules for unclear decisions...
So how would these 5 rules affect our decisions about The Da Vinci Code? First, I find no specific command or prohibition about it in Scripture. Therefore, freedom and grace. Second, you must decide if the movie is, for yourself, permissible entertainment and, then, whether it is beneficial or not. Third, as a leader, be careful not to overly recommend your position. Instead of telling your men what to do, why not give them the principles to make up their own minds? After all, that's what discipling your men is all about. And let's remember to pray before wagging a tongue or pointing a finger!
To God be the glory for the great things He has done and continues to do!
