“Empower” is one word that often appears in marketing pitches and political campaigns to make something sound lofty and forward-thinking. But the word has a pretty down-to-earth meaning when Man in the Mirror uses it. In our case, empower just means that we want to help men get the education, tools, and inspiration they need to grow spiritually and become leaders.
We know that only through effective leadership can men make a genuinely positive difference in other people’s lives. Our goal is to bring out the leader in every man — to empower him to be the leader we know he can be, the leader our world needs.
“Empowerment” is not about maneuvering yourself into a position of power; good leadership rarely has anything to do with telling other people what to do. Any idiot can do that, and most idiots think that’s the point. Genuine leadership — the kind that makes others desire to follow you — has nothing to do with titles or status. Leaders do not even have to be in positions of power; they just have a knack for inspiring and guiding others in everything from small, everyday actions to big, life-changing decisions.
Leadership is about finding the courage and fortitude to step up in a world that often pushes men to stand back.
Growing New Leaders
It is at this juncture that Man in the Mirror can help. Our organization sees the potential in every man to be a positive force in the world, and our first thought is, “Hey, how can we help make that happen?” Our vision is simple: When you help one man become a stronger leader in his faith, it ripples out. It strengthens his family, his friendships, his work life, and his community. It’s a chain reaction — one guy at a time — leading men to become authentic leaders who live and love like Christ.
So, what’s the plan? Man in the Mirror partners with churches, offering programs like the “No Man Left Behind” training. The idea here isn’t just to set up another men’s group but to build a framework where guys connect, grow, and — most importantly — stick around. Because let’s be honest: you can’t lead from the back row. We equip men with the skills and support to step up and lead confidently, whether mentoring another man or leading a Bible study.
We’re also big on making discipleship a regular part of life. That’s where our small groups, one-on-one mentorship, and tons of solid Bible study resources come in. It’s all about creating a space where men feel comfortable sharing, growing, and challenging each other (yes, even when that means tackling some tough stuff). When men come together and commit to living out their faith authentically, it’s like planting a row of seedlings: each sprouts, then buds, then reaches for the sun, until the whole garden is lush and alive.
But the goal isn’t just more Bible studies or church events. We want to spark a sense of community, responsibility, and vision. Envision the guy who’s empowered to be the dad his kids admire and want to emulate, the friend who is always there when you need him, or the coworker who’s not afraid to stand up for what’s right. That’s what authentic leadership looks like, and that’s what Man in the Mirror is all about: showing men how being the leader and example they want to be is within their grasp.
We can turn the tide and inspire men to become better leaders, one man at a time. When a man starts showing up as his best self, the world around him notices. And if you can do that for one man, then another, and another — well, that’s how you start changing lives and communities for the better.
