As the one being mentored, think about how much spiritual ground you can cover with someone who’s been through the fire. Pouring our hard-won wisdom into others reminds us of our dependence on the Holy Spirit, pulling us closer to Jesus as we model His ways. Ephesians 4:11-13 puts it well: “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Mentoring builds us both up, strengthening the whole body as we invest in each other.
Why This Matters in Our Walk
At the core, we do this out of love, the kind of love that overflows because the Holy Spirit has filled us up through Christ’s work on the cross. We love these brothers genuinely, the way God loves them, without strings attached. The saving, the transforming — that’s all His doing through the Spirit.
