Helping men grow in Christ isn’t just our particular passion at Man in the Mirror; it’s our calling. One of the most effective ways to see that transformation happen is by training leaders who will expand men’s ministry in their churches and communities across the nation. We invite you to learn more about how our organization tries to fulfill its mission.
We’ve seen it time and again: when you equip leaders, you equip communities. We want to carry on the legacy of the early church by fostering discipleship. Just as Paul guided his disciple Timothy and trained him to lead, it is our duty to disciple others and to see the fruits of these labors replicate themselves over generations. This self-sustaining cycle is the heart of discipleship and leadership — pouring wisdom, compassion, and guidance into someone else who can, in turn, pour into others.
Why Leadership Training Matters
As we’ve worked with churches across the country, we’ve noticed a common challenge: most men’s ministries don’t struggle because of a lack of passion; they struggle because they lack a clear plan and equipped leaders.
That’s where training is crucial. We can all use guidance, and if your men’s ministry is struggling or has not gotten off the ground, programs like No Man Left Behind can be a game-changer. Your leaders need practical tools to connect with men at every spiritual stage — from the guy who only shows up for Sunday service to the man who’s ready to lead a small group or mentor younger men. When churches implement this type of model, they don’t just start programs; they create sustainable systems that disciple men over the long haul.
The Role of Mentorship
Another critical piece of this puzzle is mentorship. The Bible is replete with examples of older believers guiding younger ones. Think of Moses and Joshua, Elijah and Elisha, or, of course, Paul and Timothy. In our work, we’ve seen how mentorship can unlock potential in men who might not see themselves as leaders. It’s a reminder of Proverbs 20:5, which says, “The purposes of a man’s heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding draws them out.” Sometimes, all it takes is an older man’s wisdom to draw out the gifts God has placed in someone else.
We’ve built mentorship into much of what we do, from our Area Directors who support local churches to our materials like the Spiritual Fathers initiative. These resources provide a roadmap for older and younger men to walk through life together, building trust and strengthening faith along the way.
Expanding the Vision
The beauty of this work is that it’s bigger than us. Through partnerships with churches, leaders, and organizations, we’re seeing the vision for men’s ministry expand nationwide — and even globally. Training leaders isn’t just about running programs; it’s about creating a ripple effect that impacts marriages, families, workplaces, and entire communities for the Lord.
When a man steps into his role as a spiritual leader, the impact is profound. And when leaders are equipped to help other men take that step, the results multiply. It’s the reason we’re so committed to offering training through tools like the Leadership Training Center and our Regional Events. These opportunities allow men’s ministry leaders to connect, learn, and leave better prepared to make a difference back home.
